Watermelon Sangria

Watermelon sangria is a blush-pink party pitcher drink made by blending fresh watermelon into a smooth juice, then chilling it with rosé and citrus for a rose-tinted, refreshing finish. This easy watermelon cocktail gets lifted with a splash of sparkling water for a light, slightly fizzy sip.

Ingredients

Watermelon sangria base
  • 4 cup fresh watermelon cubed and seeded
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry rosé or white wine
  • 0.5 cup watermelon vodka or plain vodka
  • 0.25 cup triple sec
  • 2 tbsp honey or simple syrup
  • 1 lime thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda
  • 0.25 fresh mint sprigs for garnish

Equipment

  • 1 pitcher
  • 1 fine mesh sieve
  • 1 blender

Method

Blend and strain watermelon juice
  1. Blend 2 cups of watermelon cubes until smooth, watching for a completely smooth puree with no visible chunks.
  2. Strain the blended puree through a fine mesh sieve until you have 1 cup of fresh watermelon juice, using gentle pressing and discarding pulp.
Mix the pitcher
  1. Combine watermelon juice, rosé wine, vodka, triple sec, and honey in a large pitcher and stir until honey is fully dissolved.
  2. Add the remaining watermelon cubes, then add lime slices and lemon slices into the pitcher so the fruit is evenly distributed.
Chill and meld flavors
  1. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, until the sangria is cold and the flavors taste well blended.
Finish and serve
  1. Right before serving, add sparkling water or club soda to the pitcher and stir gently to keep the drink lightly fizzy.
  2. Pour into ice-filled glasses and garnish each with fresh mint sprigs for a fresh, aromatic finish.

Notes

For the best texture, strain the blended watermelon thoroughly so your sangria stays silky instead of gritty. Refrigerate in a covered pitcher up to 3 days; add sparkling water right before serving each round for maximum fizz. Freezing is not recommended because citrus and watermelon soften and the sparkling element goes flat. If you want a lower-sugar option, swap honey/simple syrup for a sugar-free syrup to keep the flavor profile with fewer carbs.
